The project “Museu do Bairro – Entre Gerações!

We kicked off the project with a very special session at the @fundacaoliga Senior Club, one of our essential partners on this journey. We were greeted with great friendliness and curiosity, in a meeting marked by dialog, memories and a great desire to participate.

We began by presenting the project and launching the “Where was this?” quiz, inspired by community initiatives such as “A ajuda é linda”, where old photographs trigger memories, recognition and shared stories. The participants got involved from the first minute, bringing opinions, experiences and memories that reveal the richness and identity of the Ajuda territory.

Our role was to mediate this sharing, valuing memories without falling into nostalgia for the “good times”. At the Museu do Bairro, we want to celebrate history in order to strengthen the present, highlighting what unites us – from those who have lived in Ajuda for many years to those who have arrived more recently.

We also carried out a diagnosis of the group’s digital skills, from the use of social networks to smartphone cameras. From this mapping, we were able to organize the participants into three levels of knowledge, which will allow us to prepare the next sessions in a more appropriate and inclusive way.

Between conversations and memories, elements emerged that the participants value in the area:
the gardens and the old Rio Seco bridge
the mills and chimneys that mark the landscape
the legends and tales that are still alive in the voices of the storytellers
the recipes that are passed down from generation to generation
the Santo Amaro chapel, remembered by a participant from Bairro 2 de Maio

This first meeting was above all a moment of encounter and recognition – a space to listen, learn and value what each person brings with them. And we couldn’t have gotten off to a better start
