The COmmunity ENgagement for Social Inclusion – COMENSI is a multilateral initiative for global citizenship, strengthening civic participation and social inclusion.

This initiative, led by Bond of Union (Italy) in partnership with 4Change (Portugal), MAPPING FOR CHANGE/University College London (UK), prostoRož (Slovenia) and TESSERAE (Germany), has the following objectives:

  • to build and test community engagement tools aimed at marginalized adults in 5 urban contexts in the EU;
  • develop a set of innovative community engagement tools for professionals and other stakeholders working in disadvantaged neighborhoods;
  • explore and create a space where disadvantaged adults can formulate their ideas and share experiences about the management and regeneration of their neighborhood;
  • improving the management skills and proactive participation of adults in disadvantaged urban contexts in the EU;
  • make marginalized adults’ expression and self-diagnosis of local needs compatible with their active participation in proposals for local renewal and forms of community involvement;
  • to promote the dissemination and replication of the COMENSI strategy developed for adult participation, with the long-term goal of building a network of adherent organizations.

TARGETS

COMENSI’s main target audience is adults and young adults in situations of exclusion (18-59) – a heterogeneous population of adults from different statuses and backgrounds (migrants, people on low incomes, low educational levels, unemployed, ethnic minorities, etc.) living in disadvantaged urban areas.

The aim is to involve them in the local community, in the neighborhoods where each partner will implement the project, allowing them to play a role in defining social policies (by collecting their needs and proposing actions), trying to reduce the risk of social exclusion and providing benefits for the whole community.

From this perspective, professionals who work with these adults and in disadvantaged urban contexts, from both the private and public sectors, are also considered targets.

TOOLKIT

The first result of the project, with examples of ways to encourage the involvement of the beneficiaries (methodologies already implemented in these neighborhoods or others) and as a way of enhancing the work that has been carried out by the technicians on the ground.
