Namorar à Janela (do mundo) is a BIP/ZIP project that promotes the social and digital inclusion of senior citizens in the Ajuda area. We will also train technicians and professionals in media literacy and the right to affections and to experience senior sexuality.

4Change, APF and Klapt Produções have teamed up to boost not only the social but also the digital inclusion of seniors at the LIGA Foundation’s Senior Club in Casalinho da Ajuda – as a priority intervention area for Lisbon City Council, it has received support from the BipZip program.

The project is called ‘Dating at the window – of the world’ and will strengthen media literacy skills integrated into a full and safe experience of sexuality.

In this context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the senior population of Ajuda with few technological skills has become even more isolated, with weakened mental and emotional health. The lack of access has been compounded by a lack of skills for inclusion in the digital society – such as problem-solving and critical thinking. ‘Virtuality’ opens up new possibilities for fraud, not just financial but also emotional and sexual – the literacy needed for social inclusion requires the development of new skills, self-esteem and recognition of the rights of older people.

One of these rights is the right to an emotional life and sexual experience, which institutions and society have a duty to ensure and which does not end with age. This project seeks to respond to the problem of digital inclusion, but also to the right to a full emotional life – and to strengthen the skills of professionals and volunteers to facilitate it.
