Another year of the HUMANO Festival has begun to challenge schools and strengthen the democratic culture and civic awareness of these diverse communities. It is now moving on to new schools: a participatory construction with the Sebastião Silva Secondary School in Oeiras and the Passos Manuel Primary and Secondary School in Lisbon.
Last April, the Humano Festival was the icing on the cake for the youth groups of the Padre Cruz neighborhood and Alpiarça – on the Humano Festival you can see a summary of what young people, operational assistants, mothers and grandmothers achieved, as well as the local partnerships that made up this great celebration of democracy, human rights and new ways of looking at the world!
How does it all start, so that schools and teachers are in tune with this idea of making our communities more humane? The first step has been initial training for educators and young people with the support of facilitators art and media literacy witho Marta Branquinho, Eduardo Amaro, Joana Saraiva and the collective Qual Albatroz. Through a participatory process, students, educators and local partners define together with the facilitators how to present and value everything that the school and the projects of students and partners do in each school community.
At the Humano Festival, young people aged 12 to 16 become local agents of participatory democratic action, trained through the use of dynamics such as life stories, theater, cinema and other arts. In 2023, the processes in the four schools will once again culminate in the annual event – the Humano Festival – where young people’s actions and productions on democracy and human rights are presented in synergy with local partners and inhabitants and cultural and social activities.
4Change and the partnership network, with the support of the #EEAGrants / #activecitizensIn this way, it contributes to empowering and involving the whole community, from parents’ associations to school staff – to enhance the human dimension in the culture of schools and the social cohesion of local communities.
