The Museu do Bairro is in full swing: 15 classes in 6 schools in the municipality of Oeiras have already completed the process of exploring the municipality’s tangible and intangible heritage using the photovoice methodology. We’ll tell you more about some of the experiences:
On May 8 and 9, the Museu do Bairro filled the common areas of the Sebastião e Silva Secondary School in Oeiras with the final exhibitions of the 8thF and 8thG classes, which carried out the project as part of teacher Daniel Tavares’ Citizenship classes.
These two classes went on field trips to the Jamor complex (8th F) and Parque dos Poetas (8th G), transforming these spaces in the municipality of Oeiras into living laboratories for participatory photography, and taking them with them into their school.
In Paço d’Arcos, class 7ºI, from the Luís de Freitas Branco Secondary School, chose the theme of Colors for their photographic outing in the public space. Part of the group focused on capturing the contrasts and details of what they observed, and the rest focused on discovering how to frame their “neighborhood” in more open shots – we can’t wait for the moment of drawing and participatory construction of this exhibition!
There’s no two without three, and…
On June 4, the global exhibition of the works selected by the 15 classes of the year 2024 of the Museu do Bairro opens at Oeiras Parque – agendas ao alto, vamos marcar!
What is the Neighborhood Museum?
The Neighborhood Museum, an integral part of the Oeiras Educa+ Program, strengthens the link between formal and non-formal education, standing out as an innovative project promoted by 4Change and the Municipality of Oeiras since 2019. With the aim of providing meaningful activities for the community, Museu do Bairro stands out as an initiative that combines the artistic component and participatory methodology, revealing its potential through the unique eyes of young people.
Each class involved takes part in six 90-minute workshops, in which they design, develop and build their own community exhibitions. The Museu do Bairro is not only a repository of spaces and works, but also a guardian of the stories of the people who make Oeiras a living municipality.
