Between May 5 and June 6, the XII Open Course “Education for Global Citizenship: questioning global issues and building alternative visions” took place, an initiative that provided an essential space for critical learning, sharing and the collective construction of knowledge.

Throughout the sessions, participants were invited to reflect deeply on urgent and complex current issues. Among the central issues that marked this edition were:

  • How do you learn to unlearn?

  • What lenses do we use to see the world?

  • Is “development” synonymous with economic growth?

  • What if we put on the shoes of those who migrate?

  • How can we make human rights truly universal?

  • What role do gender stereotypes play in everyday life?

  • What can I change individually, in a collective effort?

The course reinforced the need to rethink our behavior, with an emphasis on environmental and social impact and the promotion of global justice.

The initiative was promoted by GEED – Gabinete de Estudos para a Educação e Desenvolvimento, of the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, as part of the European project GET – Global Education Time, co-financed by the European Union and implemented in Portugal by 4Change.

The GET project aims to integrate Global Citizenship Education into formal education, actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The involvement of teachers, students and community representatives showed the transformative potential of educational practices that are more inclusive, aware and committed to social change.

A special thank you to all the people who made this edition possible – may this example inspire new actions and dialogues in favor of a fairer and more supportive world.
