We are finalizing a process of diagnosis and capacity building supported by the Active Citizens Program / EEA Grants (managed by the C. Gulbenkian Foundation): the team has been sharing internally and with the partnerships and experts who work with us, in this process of rethinking 4Change.

Because we have been a Social and Cultural Cooperative since 2005, but we are also an NGDO working in Global Citizenship and sometimes we still provide consultancy in our strongest areas: participatory methods and impact assessment. Our mission, procedures and basic strategies are being fine-tuned.

This past year has been full of challenges – but with results that fill us up and set us up for the future:

  • The adaptation of a methodology already known to the team – participatory photography – as a tool for investigating the neighborhood, the community and what it values as heritage. This was the design of Museu do Bairro and it was applied in various school communities in the municipality of Oeiras, by two hundred young people aged 11 to 17. The result of these young people’s view of their ‘neighborhoods’ was 9 photography exhibitions that had the honor of being seen by hundreds of people from Oeiras, not only in each school but also in the Oeiras Municipal Market, the Atrium Building and the Oeiras Parque Shopping Centre. We will continue to work with Oeiras City Council and its Oeiras Educa+ and Oeiras 27 teams, together with Culture and Heritage – to continue building the Neighborhood Museum!
  • The Dating at the Window of the World exhibition and mupis campaign, with portraits and pieces of life history from our senior women from the LIGA Foundation/Senior Club, has been on tour in Lisbon since 2021. It’s still available to be seen around town – and we’re looking forward to continuing this work of digital empowerment of the senior population, with the application that went forward this month for the Erasmus+ program.
  • We took advantage of our trip to Brussels to meet with the team from the GEF – Green European Foundation – and brought with us the renewal of the Education on Europe Community of Practice project, which was supported by the Bosch Foundation in 2021.
